  • Description
This custom museum display showcases an Authentic piece of Trinitite Atomic Bomb Glass created by the first atomic bomb test in human history!
""I am become Death, the destroyer of worlds"" - Robert Oppenheimer, quoting the Bhagavad-Gita upon witnessing the detonation of the world's first atomic bomb.
Also known as Atomsite or Alamogordo Glass, Trinitite is the glassy residue left on the desert floor after the plutonium-based Trinity nuclear bomb test conducted by the United States Army at 5:29 a.m. on July 16, 1945, as part of the Manhattan Project, near Alamogordo, New Mexico. The glass is primarily composed of arkosics and composed of quartz grains and feldspar (both microcline and smaller amount of Plagioclase with small amount of Calcite, hornblende and augite in a matrix of sandy clay) that was melted by the atomic blast. It is usually a light green, although color can vary. It is mildly radioactive but safe to handle.
Traces of the material may be found at the Trinity Site today, although most of it was bulldozed and buried by the United States Atomic Energy Commission in 1953. It is now illegal to take the remaining material from the site; ONLY samples such as these which were gathered in the late 1940's and early 1950's (prior to the prohibition) are permitted. It's protected under plexiglass in a custom museum display to keep it looking pristine, ensuring protection of your investment while allowing you to fully appreciate this piece of collectible history. The customized descriptive metallic plaque, in addition to the detailed finishing, add to the elegant and sophisticated, gallery-quality aesthetic.
Complete with a certificate of authenticity, this piece is an exciting investment that will only get better with age.
